This Week & Beyond

Live Music

Zydeco, Cajun, and the authentic sounds of Louisiana

The Soundtrack of Cajun Country

From legendary dancehalls to intimate breakfast performances

Music is the heartbeat of Breaux Bridge. The accordion-driven sounds of Cajun and Zydeco music fill the air throughout the week, from Saturday morning Zydeco breakfasts to Friday night dancehall two-stepping.

Whether you're an experienced dancer or just want to tap your feet while enjoying great food, you'll find live music somewhere in town almost every day. The tradition of gathering, dancing, and celebrating life through music has been passed down for generations in Acadiana.

The Music of Acadiana

Understanding Cajun and Zydeco

Cajun Music

Rooted in the folk music of the French-speaking Acadians who settled in Louisiana, Cajun music features the accordion, fiddle, and guitar. The songs often tell stories of love, loss, and life in bayou country, sung in Cajun French with a distinctly Louisiana rhythm.

Zydeco Music

Born from the African American Creole communities of Louisiana, Zydeco blends Cajun music with blues, R&B, and soul. The distinctive sound comes from the accordion and the frottoir (rubboard). It's impossible to sit still when a Zydeco band starts playing!

Dance the Night Away

Don't know how to two-step? Don't worry - the locals are always happy to teach! Just get out on the dance floor and let the music move you.
